Age Grading

Age-Graded Results

“AGE-GRADED” results are calculated using tables developed by the World Association of Veteran Athletes (the world governing body for masters track and field, long distance running and race walking). These tables were first published in 1989 and are frequently updated. The tables can be used in two ways: first, by comparing your time to a standard for your sex and age, you can determine your Performance Level Percent. These percentages can be interpreted as follows, with the times for a 25 year-old male:

  • 100% = Approximate World-Record Level – 5K in 12:54  – 2:05 Marathon
  • Over 90% = World Class – 5K in 14:20 – 2:19 Marathon
  • Over 80% = National Class  – 5K in 16:08 – 2:36 Marathon
  • Over 70% = Regional Class –  5K in 18:26 – 2:58 Marathon
  • Over 60% = Local Class  – 5K in 21:30 – 3:28 Marathon
  • Over 50% = Local Average Class  – 5K in 25:48  – 4:10 Marathon

The qualifying times for Boston have an age grading of about 65%.

We are showing Performance Level Percent in the final column of our results in time order for men and women.
